Austrian Hospice

Another religious guest house strategically located in the Old City of Jerusalem is the Austrian Hospice http://www.austrianhospice.com on the Via Dolorosa near the Temp Mount / Dome of the Rock.
Built in 1857, the building is palatial and otherworldly. There is a beautiful view over the Old City from the roof and I hear reports that the Apple Strudel in the Cafeteria is excellent. 2007 posted prices for a doule room (with breakfast) - Euro 74. Group or individually negotiated prices may be significantly less.
Maronite guest house Jerusalem
If you're visiting Jerusalem, one of the more interesting (and less expensive) places to stay is in one of the Christian hospices or guest houses in the Old City.
This one belongs to the Catholic Maronite sect (most Maronites nowadays are in Lebanon) and is located close to the Jaffa Gate. It seems spotlessly clean and was refurbished a few years ago (see below)
From www.maronitejerusalem.org
Mar Maroun guest house is part of the building of the Maronite Patriarchal Vicariate in Jerusalem which is located in the Old City of Jerusalem near Jaffa Gate.
The house is managed by Maronite nuns from the congregation of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Who are also responsible of other parochial activities concerning the Maronite Parish in Jerusalem.
In 1999, just before the Jubilee Year the house was renovated so that each room now has its private bathroom and the other common areas are better lit and renovated so that our guests would have a more agreeable and convenient stay at our house.

Welcome to "Travel in Israel"
Welcome to David Lisbona's TRAVEL IN ISRAEL blog. I am a 57 year old Britisher, born in London who immigrated to Israel in 1973. I love travelling, more these days to encounter (and intereact with) other cultures than for conventional monumental sightseeing
